Competition Time?

Do you want me to tell you about some of the e-mails that I’m getting?
I got one on the 22nd Sept, and I’ve been wondering what to do with it. Here’s the deal…………an online agency, which conducts web site campaigns with bloggers (that’s me) has contacted me about a competition that they’re running. Good prize of £100 of groceries, easy as pie questions. But to enter, you’ll have to register with their site, and, I suspect, you’d start getting e-mails from ’specially selected companies’. I know a lot of sites have these competitions, but I personally view them as a cheap way of of marketing, and of gaining a lot of e-mail addresses for their clients to then spam with. Also, I think that a newspaper would charge them for advertising space, but they get cheap (actually it would probably be ‘free’ ) advertising space on a bloggers website. I don’t think that I’m particularly media savvy, but I feel that these companies are taking the piss, to some extent.
So, if any of these companies want to PAY me for advertising their competitions, and can assure me that anyone who registers for it will not be spammed for all eternity, then I’ll reconsider.

I've had these, too, earlier in the summer. One or two blogs went along with it, and it would be great to hear the experiences of those bloggers, because I'm wary, too ....

And me. Basically, as you say, they're after free publicity and free links. Which is fine with something like a charity fundraising event but not to plug a product.
If we all asked for money to do this either they might stop or give us all some much needed hard cash for our endeavours. But even then I worry it might change the nature of blogging which is spontaneous and not 'on message'. I take ads on my student website beyondbakedbeans.com but not on my blogs
I get these emails all the time too, but I go by the rule that if I would blog about it anyway I do it, if I wouldn't I don't.
I'm with Alex, if I would I might, if I wouldn't blog regardless, I don't.
I got that email and ignored it. Like you say- cheap advertising for them with no benefit for you.
I've registered with these and the amount of spam that comes through is incredible!
I agree and think this can so spoil the look and feel of a site which is so personal.
