Answers to Getting to Know You Questions

This Post was written by Trig from Aidan Brooks: Trainee Chef.

1. Where are you based?
In Hackney in East London. But in a few months time I graduate from catering college and start a working tour of Europe that will occupy me for the next few years. I'll be based in Portugal initially and later move on to Spain, France and Italy. So I've got to learn how to blog on the move.

2. How long have you been blogging?
I started by accident last August when I used Blogger as an easy way to put my CV on the internet to make it available to potential employers for work experience. Then I started to post a few articles and to read other blogs… and the rest is history.

3. What's the best thing about food blogging?
Even though I have good GCSEs, it's tempting when you pursue a vocational career to forget what you learned in school. Blogging has helped me to maintain and improve my communications skills and this will be very important for me in the future as one day I want to write and broadcast, as well as running a restaurant. And, of course, blogging is great fun!

4. What's the worst thing about food blogging?
There are times when you feel you should post but you don't really feel like it. I've pretty much solved that one by preparing one or two posts in advance (usually about food news, films, etc.) so I can put these out if I'm not up to cooking. One little niggle is that the camera does get in the way in the kitchen sometimes. By the time I've taken enough photos of what I'm cooking to ensure good shots for a photo recipe, my food is sometimes cold.

5. What inspires you to cook and write?
Food is my passion and my life. I've not wanted to do anything else since I was 7 or 8 years old. The more I learn and the more I cook, the more passionate about it I become.

6. Where do you like to blog?
I blog from home, using Blogger over a broadband connection from the PC in my bedroom. Because I'm out at college all day, this means I usually only post anything very early in the morning or in the evening. I have access to a PC in college and I'll start doing some posts from there soon, as practice for when I'm on the road.

7. What's your signature dish?
I like to cook different meals each time. If I did have a signature dish, it would probably be something savoury because although I'm qualified as a pastry chef I'm not really into desserts. One day I'll let the restaurant critics decide what my signature dish is.

8. What about you might surprise other food bloggers to know?
My post Six Weird Food Facts About Me should answer that question.

Great to hear a few things more about you! Can you speak Portuguese, Spanish and French? If so I'm insanely jealous.

Ohh, great answers! Ahhhhh, to be your age again and just starting out. I wish I had known then what I know now! Late bloomer here! Checked out your blog! It's great!

Thanks guys.

Scott - I speak street Portuguese. I never studied the language, I just picked it up by talking to my non-English speaking friends in Portugal, where I've spent quite a lot of time. I've got a GCSE A* in Spanish, but I'm far from fluent. However, if you can speak one you can easily learn the other - they are very similar in many ways. My French is not brilliant and my Italian almost non-existent. But once you understand the concept of Latin roots it's all a lot easier. I've also got some Turkish but it's mainly swear words, I'm afraid.

The tour sounds fantastic Trig.

I laughed about the food going cold, poor Rob has to put up with that sometimes too!
