ULTIMATE comfort food, what's yours?

This Post was written by Lorette from Yummy Homely Food

Sorry but I need to know!
it's a BAAAAAAAAAAAAD night tonight (don't ask!).
Whenever I need REAL comfort food, few things will do. Dark chocolate (a lot of), digestives dunked in milk perhaps. All very well but I got none of those AND need to have a proper meal since I am running tomorrow.
One of my ultimate comfort food is "coquillettes" with grated cheese and butter. coquillettes are tiny pasta, like small curbed macaronis, and a traditional dish we had when we were kids (hence why -I think- comfort food for me all those years later).

Cooked in salted boiling water for 9-10 minutes (al dente), drained and quickly returned to the pan so some of the cooking juice stays with them. A good knob of butter then LOADS of grated cheese. Gruyere tastes like home for me as does gouda (?) but cheddar would equally do.
That's is, 15 minutes later I feel better already.

what's your ultimate comfort food? You can leave a comment on my blog or let me know HERE

My favorite comfort food is my mother's baked macaroni 'n cheese. When that's not readily available, though, I really go for French fries covered in brown gravy and melted cheese. We in the NYC area call these "disco fries." So good but sooo bad for you!

Oatmeal Guy, I bet I can give you a recipe for your Mom's Mac 'n' Cheese that would take you back a few years... Especially if you're from the North.

One of my favorite comfort foods (aside from my mom's/my mac 'n' cheese) Is Chicken Stew with dumplings. The big puffy biscuit kind, not the noodle kind. I make a mean batch of those, too... anyone is free to email me if you'd like any recipes.

it's gotta be a roast chicken stuffed full of garlic and lemons. every time.

and then plain fromage frais mixed with banania powder (french drinking chocolate) - it's that childhood thing again...

Hey Pixie, thanks a lot for your comment. My ultimate comfort foods will be dark chocolates, ice creams and pizzas. They are irresistible, I guess.

oatmeal guy-yeah, pasta, cheese, way to go man :)
Carrie- never tried dumplings until recently. My husband went 2you wont' like those" but I did. I see what you mean, they ARE proper comfort food, like a hug in a stew.
Carine- my hat off if you've got the patience to wait for a chicken to roast, too long for me...but banania, oui oui oui.
Spicelove- chocolate and ice cream pizza?wow you've got yourself some apetite (lol)

Fish finger sandwiches!

Mashed potato! Don't bother to peel, just cut the potatoes up small and then they'll cook quicker. The skins are full of fibre and make it healthier - until you add the necessary amounts of butter to make it into proper comfort food that is!

Bread and Butter Pudding, no doubt about it.

I suppose that the name of my site will rather spoil the surprise of my answer, but for me, it can only be cake! A nice homemade cake chases away all ills.
